Texas Undocu Worker $200,000 Emergency Fund

Communities of low-wage workers and immigrant families in Texas have been hit the hardest by the COVID-19 pandemic. These same families have stood up against wage theft and deadly working conditions, fought to win paid sick leave and other benefits for hard working Texans, and now face mass layoffs and looming evictions. As many Texas workers and undocumented immigrants labor in jobs with low wages and non-existent benefits, they don’t have savings to fall back on and are now being excluded from state and federal financial assistance programs.

These families’ needs are urgent, and the time to act is now.

That is why Workers Defense Project’s members are expanding our “Texas Undocu Worker Emergency Fund” (apply and learn more here) to raise $200,000 as a form of mutual aid and direct financial assistance for the well-being of our community during the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the support we've received so far, we have raised $165,000 from our community, but the needs are immense. This fund has received more than 5,000 applications for assistance since launching on April 1st.

Your donation to this fund is critical for our community.

We've called and texted hundreds of low-wage workers and immigrant families in Houston, Dallas and Austin, and they are concerned with:

Paying their bills.

Feeding their families.

Exposure to COVID-19 at work.

Worsening labor abuses.
