Texas Undocu Worker Emergency Fund

This past week, working families in Texas have been slammed by yet another crisis as the state is paralyzed by record-breaking cold and winter conditions and a failure by state leadership to invest in the infrastructure Texas needs. The Black and Latinx communities that have been the hardest hit by the COVID 19 pandemic are now also reeling from power outages that have left families shivering in their own homes for days, often without running water or access to food. These same families have stood up against wage theft and deadly working conditions, fought to win paid sick leave and other benefits for hard working Texans, and now face mass layoffs and looming evictions.

These families’ needs are urgent, and the time to act is now.

That is why Workers Defense Project’s members are pivoting our “Texas Undocu Worker Emergency Fund” to raise $200,000 as a form of mutual aid and direct financial assistance to help famlies weather the disaster unfolding in our state.

Your donation to this fund is critical for our community.

We've called and texted hundreds of low-wage workers and immigrant families in Houston, Dallas and Austin, and they are concerned with:

Keeping warm

Feeding their families.

Missing work with no access to paid leave.

Paying their bills when this is all over.

Repairing damage to their homes.
